Amidst the splendor of the South Pacific, warning signs abound. If proof is needed of climate change allow me to present it. The inner reef at Caroline Island is almost entirely bleached. A once vibrant and thriving underwater society now seems like Pompei after the eruption of Vesuvius. Swimming through dead coral and the remains of sea life, a glimmer of color caught my eye. I swam to it and this beautiful cobalt blue clam opened it’s large mouth. I was mesmerized but also incredibly sad. It’s home is gone. With sea level temperature rise and increased ocean acidification, this appears to be our future. We must change our ways quickly if we hope to preserve what we’re losing and at this rate it may be too late.
